Artist Statement:
"Collage, traditionally, is the combination of different media in a single artwork using glue or another adhesive. In this work I explore collage as a concept of time. How do the past present and future interact with each other? Layering the experiences of the past with the current moment to help me to make sense of my identity, is integral to my process. The act of making is as much a part of the art as the final product. Using the past as a foundation, there is opportunity to create new understanding.
My work explores personal experiences and the passage of time. What does it mean to grow up in a biracial home? How has childhood influenced the present? Life moves, people and places and things are fleeting. Looking at our experiences, the catalog of ups and downs bring us to the present moment. Do we all share common experiences?
My work explores personal experiences and the passage of time. What does it mean to grow up in a biracial home? How has childhood influenced the present? Life moves, people and places and things are fleeting. The notion of healing, understanding how I occupy space, breaking cycles and going on new adventures is what motivates me to create. There are many questions that still remain unanswered. What was? What is? What can be? Using knowledge and patterns from life as a tool to understand the past and present I explore personal narrative through drawing and painting."
